Sherry Rex Lindeman Hewitt, 87, of Crossville, went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
Sherry was born on September 24, 1938, in Peotone, IL, to the late Henry C. and Bertha (Baxter) Lindeman. She graduated from Peotone High School in 1956. She married Clarence Floyd Hewitt, Jr., on November 10, 1956, in Peotone.
Together, they lovingly raised four children while living at Air Force bases across the country. Sherry dedicated herself to nurturing her family and all who surrounded her. Once they found their permanent home in Crossville, she found fulfillment in caring for the animals and plants on their farm. She possessed a storyteller’s charm and talent for writing, paired with a quick-witted humor that could light up a room.
Through every season of life, she enjoyed singing in the church choir, gardening flowers and vegetables, arranging flowers for the church, researching genealogy, learning about the Civil War, and spending time with her grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of compassion, creativity, and stories that will be told for generations. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years, and sister, Janice Holmes. She is survived by her son, Scott Hewitt, Crossville; three daughters, Sheila (Brent) Nimmo, Crossville; Heidi Hewitt, Goodlettsville; Holly (Jay) Caldwell, Hendersonville; grandson, Jonathan Caldwell, Madison, WI; granddaughters, Hannah Caldwell, Hampton, VA; and Elizabeth Caldwell, New Haven, CT; sister Laurie (Thomas) Smith, Pinellas Park, FL.
Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church, Crossville, on December 21 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial service at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Andy Aikens officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude.
