Norman Reiss, M.D., born on March 12, 1927, passed away on May 7, 2025 at the age of 98. He was a resident at Good Samaritan Fairfield Glade in Crossville, TN. An obstetrician and gynecologist, World War II veteran and much more, he will be sorely missed by family and friends.
As a teenager, Norman studied the bass fiddle. He played in the high school orchestra, then later with classical musicians. Other hobbies he enjoyed included photography, travel, and tennis.
Norman studied medicine at Temple University. Before completing medical school, he entered the U.S. Army as a Surgical Technician. There he supervised the welfare of 1,000 military personnel administering treatment to sick or wounded, soldiers. He served from May 1945 to October 1946. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned home and completed his medical degree.
Norman’s first wife, Maxine, was mother to his three children. Both Maxine and his daughter predeceased him. When the marriage ended Norman married Elaine, who had three children from her first marriage. Both Elaine and her daughter also predeceased him.
During Norman’s medical career he delivered 17,000 babies! Well respected in his profession, he was Head of Obstetrics for at least one hospital.
Norman had one sibling, Beverly, who predeceased him. Surviving Norman are his niece and two nephews, children of Beverly and her husband. Also surviving are two sons, two step-sons, a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, and step-grandchildren.
A special thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan Fairfield Glade, where he spent his final years. They kept him comfortable until the end, so Thank You!
A memorial service for friends and family will be planned for next year.
