Crab Orchard

Marilyn Sherrill, age 86, of Crab Orchard, TN, died peacefully at home on July 23, 2025.

Born in Minneapolis, MN to Arthur Stanley Kurtz and Leocadia Seraphia Mallack Kurtz, young Marilyn loved catching lake critters with her father, being athletic, being part of the Catholic faith, reading geographical and cultural narratives, and painting. She attended Incarnate Catholic School in Minneapolis and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1957 before joining the US Air Force, where she ultimately served as a combat radar reader and, importantly, met and married her life mate, Edgar Leland Sherrill, Jr., whom she knew as Joe (then Jody).

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and brothers Roger and Danny Kurtz, sisters Bea Hartman (George) and Linda Fodstad (John), and is survived by her children, Dr. John (Beth) Sherrill, Joseph (LeeAnn) Sherrill, Ann Sherrill Morphew, and Teresa (Jerry) Duncan, and her sister Elaine Kurtz Palbicki, sister-in-law Dee Dee Kurtz, brother-in-law Charles Pepper Hild, along with 13 grandchildren, 22 great grands, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Additionally, we must express our gratitude for the many special helpers who spent time caring for “Granny” with us.

Visitation/reception is Friday, August 8, 5:00pm CT-6:30pm CT, with a Celebration of Life service from 6:30pm CT-8:00pm CT at Bilbrey's Funeral Home in Crossville, TN.

All are welcome to attend a Catholic Funeral Mass to be held Saturday, August 9th (the date of Marilyn and Jody’s wedding anniversary) at 11:00am CT at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (Crossville, TN).

After the funeral mass, a family interment service will be held at Haley's Grove Cemetery in Crab Orchard, TN.

Marilyn supported many beloved causes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marilyn and Jody’s Roane State Community College Student Scholarship Edgar L. (Jody) Sherrill and Marilyn Sherrill Scholarship Endowment (QR code provided) or to one of your favored nonprofits. Thank you.
