Lynda J. Tjaarda

Lynda Jane Reisinger Tjaarda of Fairfield Glade passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023. She was 87. Lynda was born on February 20, 1936, in York, PA to parents John and Marjorie Reisinger and graduated from York High School in 1954. She was a graduate of Shippinsburg (PA) State Teacher College. Upon graduation she was employed by the York School System as a first-grade teacher. In November of 1958, she met her future husband, James Tjaarda on a blind date. They dated all through 1959 and were married on April 23, 1960. After marriage they moved to Niagara Falls where Jim was an engineer for Union Carbide. All four of their children were born during their time there. In 1966 they began a series of company transfers; first to Greenville, S.C., then to Fostoria, OH, and then returned to Niagara Falls. In 1973 they moved to Puerto Rico followed by a move to Parma Ohio Technical Center near Cleveland. In 1979, they transferred to Clarksville, TN where Jim was plant manager. It was during their six year stay in Clarksville that the children graduated from High school, college, and decided that Tennessee would be their future home. So, in 1985 the empty nesters made their final move back to the Parma, Ohio Technical Center. During their time in Clarksville, they became familiar with Fairfield Glade, which soon became their base when visiting Tennessee. When they decided to retire in 1997, Fairfield Glade was the obvious choice. They later moved to the Good Samaritan Society Independent Living facility. During their retirement days Lynda enjoyed an annual trip to Florida every February along with an occasional cruise. She enjoyed the social aspects of golf as well as belonging to the Fairfield Glade Woman’s Club. In her earlier days in Clarksville, she was involved with Meals on Wheels, first as a driver then as the manager. Tragedy struck in 2000 when her oldest daughter Margorie died suddenly at the age of 39. In 2016 her only son Michael died of a heart attack at 53. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mildred, John, and Donald Reisinger, all of York, PA. She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Jim; daughters, Barbara Moser and husband Don from Murfreesboro, and Ellen Paulk of New Concord, KY; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; all residents of Middle TN. Lynda’s inurnment of ashes will be places in the columbarium at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church alongside Marjorie and Michael. A Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date.
