Helen Shekeruk

Helen Audrey Shekeruk, age 94, of Crossville, TN, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Cumberland Medical Center.

Helen was born on September 30, 1931, in Toledo, OH, daughter of Burl and Marie Kirkendall.

Helen graduated from Waite High School. In 1950, she married her husband of 64 years, George Shekeruk, and together they raised five children. Helen enjoyed being a stay at home mom and was very involved in her kids’ school and sports activities. As her kids grew older, she worked part time in the billing office at Toledo Auto and Truck Supply. In 1990, Helen and George moved to Fairfield Glade, TN where they enjoyed many active retirement years together. They were charter members of Christ Lutheran Church, where Helen sang in the choir. Helen was an enthusiastic bowler, golfer, hiker and card player. She also loved baking, crocheting, flower gardening, music, dancing, and going to the Cumberland County Playhouse. Her greatest joy, however, was being mother, grandmother and great grandmother. 

She is survived by her children, Deborah Kelly (Lauchlin), Shelley Zelling (John), Bruce Shekeruk (Jo), Randy Shekeruk, and Jodi Powell (Jeff); 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, George Peter Shekeruk; parents, Burl Kirkendall and Marie Kirkendall Delano; sister, Dolores Almester; and brother, Burl Kirkendall Jr.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade, TN on Friday, July 3rd at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Christ Lutheran Church.
