Dr. Charles Robert Wierer

Oct 31, 1938 — Jul 30, 2026

Crossville, TN

Dr. Charles Robert Wierer, age 87, of Crossville, TN, passed over to a better place on July 30, 2026, at The Preserve in Fairfield Glade.

Dr. Wierer (Chuck) was born on October 31, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, son of Robert and Lela (Covert) Wierer.

Dr. Wierer was a family physician who had his own practice in Myersville, Maryland for over 30 years. Dr. Wierer and his wife Dorothy, who managed the office and counseled patients on nutrition, made a great team.

Chuck was a jolly man who always carried jokes in his pocket to tell anyone who would listen.

He enjoyed travelling with his family and trying the food of every place they visited. He loved seafood, especially from the Chesapeake Bay.

Dr. Wierer was a book collector and read about everything under the sun, especially science, spirituality, the supernatural and the Civil War. He was a docent at Gathland War Correspondents’ Memorial in Maryland and the Military Memorial Museum in Crossville. He was a walking encyclopedia full of knowledge he loved to share.

Chuck Wierer loved Halloween because he was born on Halloween in 1938 during Orson Welles’ radio broadcast of “War of the Worlds.” He often claimed he was an alien or a “Wierer-wolf.”

His favorite pastime, by far, was singing. He loved participatory opera and operettas and enjoyed singing with many groups including the very loving and supportive Fairfield Community Church Choir and the Cumberland County Community Chorus.

He is survived by his daughters Kristi DuBois (with David Clark) and Karlynn Wierer; grandson Miles Wierer-Huling; nieces Ginny, Julie, Wendy and Cindy, and nephew Leslie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Marker) Wierer and sister Donna Thelaner.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
