Deane Willits, age 89, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away on August 25, 2026, at Cumberland Medical Center.
Deane was born on October 25, 1936, the son of the late Howard Willits and Louise (Logan) Willits.
Throughout his life, Deane had a great love for raising honeybees. He purchased his first bee farm, or apiary, in Fort Pierce, Florida, in 1965. What began as a passion became a lifelong pursuit that continued for 61 years. After making his home in Crossville, Deane became well known throughout the community as “The Honeyman,” a name that reflected both his dedication to beekeeping and the many years he shared his passion with others. Deane also had a long career in retail. He served in management positions with several establishments, including Winn-Dixie, Publix, and Little Jay’s in Pikeville, Tennessee. Later, he worked as a produce associate at Walmart, retiring after 15 years of dedicated service.
Deane is survived by his son and daughter, along with their spouses, and a large and loving extended family who will cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, Deane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Larae (Simpson) Willits, who passed away on January 19, 2009; his sister, Alma Mason; and her husband, Ed Mason.
