Dave John Grigg Jr., 76, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born in Chicago, Dave grew up with a stubborn streak that drove him toward excellence; he believed in doing things the right way “his way” and doing them to perfection.
Throughout his life, Dave pursued many paths with determination and pride. He served as a police officer in Hometown, IL, owned and operated the “Tally Ho” restaurant, and later worked as a pipefitter with Local 597 for Borg Mechanical. After retirement, he embraced the things that brought him joy, casting a fishing line into quiet water, riding his motorcycle on open roads, and spending quality time with his loved ones.
Dave was known for his honesty and straightforward nature, he always told you exactly how he felt, and you always knew where you stood with him. He put his whole heart into everything he did, including serving as a Cub Scout Leader for Pack 3682 in Hometown, where he guided young scouts with patience, humor, and a sense of adventure.
Above all else, Dave was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Jana; his children Amy, David, and Jeffrey (Colleen); and his grandchildren Abby (Nate Albright), Lexi, Alyssa, Addison, Dominic, Logan, and Jeffrey each of whom knew him proudly as “Papa,” a title he cherished above all others.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, David Sr., and his younger brother, Dennis. Survived by his mother, Joan, who continues to bless the family with her strength and love, as well as his siblings Darlene (Dwyer), Doug, Donna (O’Connor), and Daniel, with whom he shared memories and family moments over the years. His faithful dog and constant companion, Dexter, remained by his side through it all.
Whether he was telling a story, offering advice, fixing something only he knew how to fix, or cheering on his grandchildren, Dave lived life on his terms, with humor, kindness, and a full heart. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty, hard work, and unconditional love.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the Best Papa Ever.
