Charles Durham Curtis, age 89, of Crossville, TN, passed away at his home on July 22, 2025.
Mr. Curtis was born on July 12, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Charles Madison Curtis and Maude Durham Curtis.
After graduating from Hofstra University, Commander Curtis served our country in the U.S. Navy for 26 years as a Naval Aviator and was the Commanding Officer of the Helicopter Squadron, HSL-37 in 1976-77, then located at the Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. He retired 1 July 1985 from Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. They resided for 43 years in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Braunewell Curtis, originally from Hatboro, PA; children, Scott Curtis and Kendra Curtis; stepson, Robert Douglas Figgs; and 5 grandchildren; and beloved pets, Lucy and Crystal (the little monster!)
He is preceded in death by both of his parents.
No services are scheduled at this time. Inurnment will eventually be in Hawaii’s Punchbowl National Cemetery on Oahu.
