Carl "Eddie" Raper

Carl Edward “Eddie” Raper passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024. He was born on August 27, 1954. He was the son of the late George and Peggy (Randolph) Raper.

In addition to his parents, Eddie is preceded in death by his brothers, Nolan and Boyd; in-laws, Warren and Geraldine Rankhorn; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Glenis and Jeff Burnett, and Mark Rankhorn.

He taught school for 40 years and coached for 31 years, all but one of those were in Cumberland County. Eddie began his teaching career at Crab Orchard Elementary School. After two years he moved to what was then Martin Jr. High. After 14 years there, he moved to Monroe County, as a teacher and coached for one year. He then returned to Crab Orchard Elementary and remained there until he retired at the end of the 2015-2016 school year.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Sarah; brother, Sam (Sue); nieces, Beth Selby (Troy), Leanne Landers (Chad), Crystal Smith (Eric), Anita Franklin (Victor), and Lisa Neveu (Gerald); nephews, Don England (Dora), Jacob England (Amy), and Steve Allred; brother-in-law, Charles Rankhorn (Leslie); sisters-in-law, Wilma Raper, Linda Allred, Esther England (David); several great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces. Special family friends, Howie Peebles, Donna King, Jake and Alice Hawes, Howell and Lisa Peebles. Sawyer, Ava, Lucy, and James – all very (special) nieces and nephews to Uncle Eddie.

Celebration of Life will be held at Simple Life Church on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service.

For those that attend the Visitation and/or the Celebration of Life service, at Eddie’s request please wear your favorite school or Pro Team Shirt or Jersey.

In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to any of the following:

-Paige Selby’s Kindergarten class at Pleasant Hill Elementary.
