Bruce Lee Blumer, age 74, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away on September 1, 2026, at Cumberland Medical Center. Bruce was born on April 8, 1952, in Highland, IL, the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Randant) Blumer.
Bruce graduated from Triad High School and Bradley University. His career as a teacher, coach and Athletic Director spanned 38 years in Illinois. His first position was at Norwood School in Peoria, then Farmer City-Mansfield (Blue Ridge), ending with Huntley High School. He moved to Fairfield Gade, Tennessee once he and Chandra both retired.
His love of baseball took many forms; player, coach, and spectator, learning at an early age to root for the Cubs, which was pretty brave considering he grew up in Cardinal Country. This tradition is now shared by his sons and grandchildren.
Bruce dearly loved his family, especially his six grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa.” His hobbies over the years included softball, golf, tennis, travel, and he also enjoyed a good crossword puzzle. He took great pride in a meticulous lawn and perfectly chlorinated swimming pool.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Chandra (Leder) Blumer; sons, Kyle (Libby) Blumer and Kory (Ella) Blumer; and grandchildren, Kamryn, Riley, Billy, Sammy, Danny and Emme.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father in-law and mother-in-law, William and Jean (Faitz) Leder.
A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ in his hometown of St. Jacob, Illinois, on Saturday, September 19. Visitation will be held at 10 am with a memorial service at 11am, followed by a luncheon at the church Heritage Hall.
Memorials to honor Bruce may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
