Barbara Jean Olsen

Barbara Jean Olsen, age 83, of Crossville, TN, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at her home.

Mrs. Olsen was born on February 1, 1942, in Santa Ana, CA, daughter of the late Charles Wilburt Houchens and Jean Evelyn (Taylor) Houchens.

Barbara was a quick witted, loyal, and caring woman. She had a commanding & humorous personality and spent years chatting it up as a hairdresser and grocery clerk. She also spent her time caring for her family. She provided guidance, discipline, and advice that might’ve not been wanted sometimes but was always needed. Barbara was an excellent home cook and passed her culinary wisdom on to her daughter-in-law and granddaughters. She loved to bake and would pass out cookies and treats to her neighbors often. She enjoyed playing cards and was a part of several social clubs throughout her life, including the Red Hat Society and Cumberland County Master Gardeners. What she most truly appreciated was spending time with her family. She loved them fiercely no matter what. She has now joined our Lord and is reunited with her husband and parents. She will be truly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Randall Olsen (Shawnee) and Anthony Olsen (Judy); grandchildren, Madison, Kamble, Conor, Brittney, Ashley, and Cameron; and sibling, Jerry Houchens.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Neil Willard Olsen.
